Last Memorials for Osana Futi

More than two dozen people gather for a memory box burial held in Hayward to remember a Newark student killed in late April.

Loved ones of a slain Newark Memorial High School student gathered Friday for a Memory Box Burial service in Hayward.

About 30 people were in attendance to remember the life of 18-year-old Osana Futi, who was fatally stabbed in late April.

His belongings filled a box and was laid to rest at the Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward near his late uncle, Paul Satele, who also attended Newark Memorial High School and died in a fatal car accident in October 2006.

The gathering occurred just short of one week after Newark Memorial seniors graduated. Futi's family members were in attendance and received the diploma the star football player would have received.

Futi was buried in American Samoa, where his mother resides, in mid-May.

While it has been nearly two months since Futi's killing, those close to him continue to share memories of him on social networks.

One friend whose name is listed as Rocky O'Connor wrote on Twitter, "Osana's memory box, we all miss and live you."
