Funeral Services Set for Osana Futi

A viewing is scheduled for Thursday and a memorial service is planned for Friday for Osana Futi, a Newark student who was stabbed and killed in late April.

Funeral services for a slain Newark student have been finalized for this week.

The community is invited to both the viewing and memorial service for Newark Memorial High School senior Osana Futi, who died April 29 after succumbing to injuries he sustained from a stabbing the night before. He was 18.

A viewing will be held Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Memorial Chapel, 3723 Peralta Blvd. in Fremont.

A memorial service will be held Friday starting at 6 p.m. at the Event Center, 39375 Cedar Blvd. in Newark.

Those close to the Futi family are continuing to hold fundraisers to help the Futi family pay for memorial services.

Relatives intend to transport Futi’s body to Samoa for a burial ceremony in his homeland where his biological mother still resides, said Stacy Kelly, Newark Memorial Athletics Booster president and close friend of the family.

Kelly added that proceeds of the fundraisers will also help pay for a burial site at the Chapel of Chimes in Hayward where his surrogate family plans to have a “memory box” – a symbolic casket filled with items memorializing him.

Future fundraisers are still in the works, but one of those fundraisers includes Saturday’s Big Time Wrestling Supershow, which begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Event Center. A percentage of each ticket sale is will go to the Futi family, Kelly added.

I definitely rushed right into the shower when the power went out to avoid the dark! Apparently allRead More the traffic lights were out in the areas you mentioned, as well as the Central/Blacow traffic lights. I wish I knew what happened, I should probably check that out right now. I remember as a teacher buying my own supplies. Looking back I don't regret buying anything andRead More realize that each person's teaching style is different. The things I might buy for my classroom would be totally different than you. Running a classroom is a lot like running a business, there are expenses and you just have to deal with that.

One story I tried to read had an ad covering 1/4 of it, and there was no way to make it go away.

Don't like it at all. "Change" isn't always for the better.
