Local Fall Sports Offerings For Kids & Teens: Olympics Edition!

An Olympics-inspired selection of fall sports and athletic activities for kids and teens in and around the Tri-Cities.

Did your kids light up at the sight of Kerri Walsh Jennings and Misty May-Treanor winning their third straight gold? Or how about watching Michael Phelps become not only the greatest swimmer of all time, but also the most decorated athlete in Olympic Games’ history?

Children, teens, and families who gathered around the TV this summer did not just cheer on our U.S. teams, they were inspired by them as well. Watching our elite Olympic athletes inspires us to do and be our best, and to make better choices about our physical health, as well. You most likely know that childhood obesity is a major problem in the U.S. as 20% of children age 6-11 and 18% of adolescents age 12-19 years old are obese (Source: CDC). Keeping kids active now that school has begun can be even more challenging as families balance new schedules, homework, transportation, and other demands. So we at Mission Pool Service compiled an Olympics-inspired list of youth sport resources in Fremont, Newark, and Union City to help your children stay active this fall:

Bump, Set, & Spike like Kerri & Misty - Volleyball

Swim as fast as Michael Phelps - Swimming

Tumble, Flip, & Soar like ‘the Fierce Five’ U.S. Women’s Team - Gymnastics

Get moves like Kayla Harrison - Martial Arts

Slam Dunk like LeBron James - Basketball

Score like Alex Morgan - Soccer

Do you have more local kids athletics resources you’d like to share? How about any tips for keeping children and teens healthy and active during the school year?
