Week in Review: Gas Leak at NMHS, Cattlemens Demolished, Mayor Celebrates Birthday

It’s been a busy last week before Thanksgiving break at since the surfaced on Tuesday afternoon. Gas services remain shut off as Bonetti Construction crews continue attempts to pinpoint where damages were made and to repair the faults in the gas pipeline.

The former Cattlemens Restaurant building is no more. This week, the 9,760-square-foot building was demolished to make way for two new commercial buildings as part of a project . An Autozone and a drive-thru Starbucks will occupy the two commercial buildings. Property owners have said they hope the construction of the buildings will be completed by next spring.

The two owners of North Bay Dispensary (NBD) Cannabis Collective and three of the pot club’s employees pleaded not guilty to dozens of felony charges, ranging from tax evasion and conspiracies to commit a crime to sales and transportation of marijuana. and the city of Newark have been in legal battles for years. The five individuals will appear at the Fremont Hall of Justice again on Jan. 19.

About one week after Newark , current Mayor David Smith was celebrating – his birthday and his last ribbon cutting. Smith officiated his on Wednesday at where Ping and Iris Wang have taken over the store as its new owners. Smith was also spotted out and about at on Nov. 17 to celebrate .
