Need to Know: Meet Council Candidates, Learn About The School Bond Measure

Here are five things you need to know in and around Newark through Oct. 2.

  1. Meet the this year at a forum hosted by Newark’s AARP. The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Senior Center, 7401 Enterprise Dr.
  2. Support your local community college’s athletic department by taking part in the . The tournament will be held all day and costs $245 to play, or you can attend just the fundraising dinner for $55. The event will be held at 5050 Arroyo Rd. in Livermore.
  3. The Newark Unified Board of Education meets in a regular session beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Among the items on the agenda are a vote on whether to approve a contract with National Aquatics for repairs of the pool at and consideration of whether to approve board policy and administrative regulations of the district’s Intra District Open Enrollment Policy.
  4. Learn more about , the school maintenance bond measure that is on the November ballot, at an informational meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at , 35430 Blackburn Dr. A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.
  5. Fremont-based SAVE (Safe Alternatives to Violent Environments) is hosting a Domestic Violence Awareness Breakfast  from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at the , 39900 Balentine Dr. The event is meant to open the public's eyes to the realities of abuse and the impact domestic violence has on families and loved ones. Tickets are $40 and proceeds go toward SAVE.
