Cal State East Bay Prepares for Typhoon Haiyan Benefit Show

Dec. 8 will bring a benefit show to Cal State East Bay's Theatre, in order to help those affected by Typhoon Haiyan.

Inspired by recent efforts made both on campus and other CSUs, the CSU East Bay Theatre and Dance Department will be having a Benefit Show on Sunday, Dec. 8 from 2-5 PM, in order to raise awareness and funds for the lives affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

This is not the first time the department has put together a benefit show in the aftermath of an impacting natural disaster.  Benefits have been held in the past on campus to support those affected both by the earthquake in Haiti in 2010 and the earthquake in Japan in 2011.  This time around, the Benefit Show, H.E.L.P. (Helping Everyone Live Peacefully) 2013, will be presented at a much larger scale.

The Benefit Show will include food and refreshments, performances, a raffle, and a silent auction.  In addition, there will also be a candlelight vigil held in the last half hour of the event to honor those who have died in the storm.

While admission to the show is free, donations are highly encouraged and all proceeds will go towards the relief efforts made by the international medical humanitarian organization, Doctors Without Borders, and the international disaster relief organization, ShelterBox.

Through it all, everyone involved hopes to inspire others to use the power of the arts to unite the community and bring hope for others.  Without a doubt, every contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a lasting impression on the project and the after effects of it as well.
