Newark The "Ghetto Town"

Newark has a new Reputation, thanks to a Niche Website which seeks to make Note of potentially dangerous areas to avoid while traveling.

As if the City of Newark needed anymore bad press, here we are featured on GhettoTracker.com. Ghetto Tracker is a Website that's meant to inform travelers of potentially bad areas to avoid while on the road for Leisure or Work.

I found out about the Website via CNN's homepage and decided to check it out. After loading the main page, I decided to search for Newark. I honestly wasn't expecting to find any results because, well the service is somewhat new.

Lo and behold Newark is FULL of Red Dots meaning "Unsafe Areas", from what I gather people have to manually rate an area within a town for it to appear on the map.

If the Service is to be taken seriously, this means that people who either Live in Newark or Work here view our Community as a Hostile environment. The Rating process is simple, type in an exact address or just a street name and click on one of the Colors which represent different descriptions such as Average, Above Average, Below Average, Safe, and Unsafe then simply click "Rate This Place".

At the time of this Post, the only two "Safe" places in the City of Newark is the Newark Police Department and Shell Station on Jarvis. LOL!

Meanwhile the "Unsafe" areas of Newark include Burdick Street, Chase Suites, Eazy 8 Motel, Foodmaxx, Newark Junior High School, Newark Memorial High School, and Safeway among many, many others.

Bettencourt along with Lincoln Elemetnary School are rated as "Below Average",ironically Hazlenut Drive is rated as "Average", given what I know of the area I would not Classify Hazlenut as a "Average" Neighborhood, more like a "Safe" Neighborhood.

However each individual person is different so they're views of course wouldn't match mine, unfortunately when people start rating areas like this without giving any commentary it leaves a bad taste in outsiders mouths. Newark already struggles economically as do Businesses within our Community.

Do we really need more people being driven away from us at a time when the few people we get is worth everything? Do you agree with Ghetto Tracker?
