Republic Services To Collect Donations on Trash Days

Newark residents can leave food and toys on the curb on their service day.

Republic Services partnered with philanthropic organizations in Newark, California to collect toy and food donations this holiday season.

Putting food and toys on the curb for collection is the easiest way to support those in need during the holiday season, said Pam Enriquez, division manager at Republic Services.

“We know there is great demand for assistance and providing this convenient service is the very least we can do for our community,” Enriquez said.

Starting on December 2, Newark residents can place non-perishable food and new toy donations on the curb on their service day. The company is asking people to place a coupon provided by Republic Services on the donations to clearly differentiate them from the items being discarded.

The food and toys will be sent to the League of Volunteers and the Viola Blythe Community Services Center.

The food will help tremendously with the Holiday Basket program, said Debbie Rodriguez, executive director of the Viola Blythe Community Service Center.

“This is a wonderful example of another company and its employees going the “extra” mile for our community,” Rodriguez said.  “We applaud Republic Services for their commitment!”

Shirley Sisk, executive director of LOV, was equally appreciative.

“This is a wonderful service Republic is providing for the community,” Sisk said. “The toys and food will help make this a wonderful Christmas for many families.”

Republic Services will be collecting the donations between December 2 and December 13.
