A man was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and threatening family members after a lengthy dispute on Aug. 11. Police were first called to the 37100 block of Saint Christopher Street in Newark around 4:45 p.m. Saturday after it was reported that the man was holding the family at gunpoint inside a locked bedroom in the home. He was eventually arrested by Union City police after a victim called to say she had been kidnapped and threatened at gunpoint by the suspect, police said
A 59-year-old woman is in critical condition after she was struck by a vehicle in Fremont Tuesday evening, police said. Fremont police said the woman was walking westbound in a crosswalk on Civic Center Drive around 5 p.m. when she was hit by a sedan travelling northbound on Civic Center Drive. Police said it does not appear that drugs or alcohol played a factor in the collision.
