Week in Review: Osana Futi Killing Suspect Pleas Innocent; Vice Mayor Finalist For County Supervisor Seat

A Fremont man charged with murder in connection with the stabbing death of Newark Memorial High School senior Osana Futi during a court appearance Wednesday. Abraham Ibrahim Hade, 18, faces one count of murder with a gang-enhancement as a result of the April stabbing death of Futi. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 31 to learn whether a judge will allow subpoenaed documents about Futi from the Newark Unified School District be disclosed to Hade’s attorney Thomas Knutsen and again in July for preliminary hearings.

A judge decided Tuesday that a Newark man will his girlfriend’s murder. Jason Otis Monroe, 33, faces one count of murder in connection with the April 2011 stabbing death of Evangeline Supena Contillo, 25, who was his girlfriend of eight years and mother of his two children. The decision came after a two-day preliminary examination in which three witnesses revealed that Contillo suffered 37 injuries and Monroe admitted to officers that he had stabbed the woman. Monroe’s mother also noted that her and was a difficult man to live with.

After two months with no sign of missing South Bay teen Sierra LaMar, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office investigators have made an. Morgan Hill resident Antolin Garcia-Torres, 21, was arrested and this week in connection with the presumed killing of Sierra. He faces one count of murder and one count of murder.

The Alameda County Board of Supervisors selected to move forward in the appointment process of finding a replacement for former District 2 Supervisor Nadia Lockyer, who resigned last month amidst months of scandals. Among those finalists is Newark Vice Mayor Ana Apodaca. The board plans to appoint someone by early June.

Two employees of local businesses and a woman were robbed in three separate incidents Thursday, according to Newark police. The first robbery occurred just after 1 p.m at the 76 Gas Station off Newark Boulevard when a man approached an employee, demanded cash, flashed a knife, took $100 and fled. The woman said she was robbed around 6:21 p.m. as she walking up to her home on Parada Street. The two suspects in that incident stole her purse and phone. And an employee at FoodMaxx said he was robbed of his iPhone just before 11 p.m. by two suspects. Newark police are asking for the communities help in identifying the perpetrators.
