Week in Review: Missing Teen Sierra LaMar Facebook Hacked; Man Chases Dad with Knife

Here's a round up of the most popular stories during the week of June 18.

An Instagram photo of a supposed Facebook post made by Sierra LaMar that went viral late Monday night is a hoax, police say. The post depicts a Facebook user with the name and photo of the missing Morgan Hill teen stating, “please call the police he’s coming back," along with an address for a home in Saratoga, a nearby town located approximately 30 miles from Morgan Hill. Authoroties told the San Jose Mercury News the posts were made by a person who hacked into the teen's Facebook account.

A man was arrested after he chased his father with a knife and threatened to kill him, Newark police said. No injuries were reported, but the incident prompted a three-hour standoff before the suspect was arrested. The Newark man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and making terrorist threats, according to a press release issued by the Newark Police Department.

 Police are investigating a drive-by shooting that occurred Thursday night on Locust Street. Police said while no one was injured in the shooting, one person was home and that several bullets struck a home and a pair of parked vehicles.

A former Newark firefighter who is prohibited from having any guns and ammunition due to a prior felony conviction was arrested on weapons charges this week, according to the district attorney’s office. Officials said John Fontinos, 47, of Half Moon Bay was arrested after police found 16 arms and 10,000 rounds of ammunition on the man’s property.

East Bay police officers carried the Special Olympics torch through Alameda and Contra Costa counties as part of the Special Olympics of Northern California's Law Enforcement Torch Run this week.
