Week in Review: Meth Lab Found; Dance Teacher Dead at 87

Police discovered and dismantled on Bonnie Street this week. Authorities arrived at the home around 3 p.m. Wednesday to serve a search warrant and found the meth lab set up inside of an “illegal add-on” to the home and seized 13 pounds of meth. Streets were closed off while the lab was being taken apart. Authorities have not said whether any arrests were made.

Hundreds gathered to remember Newark Memorial High School senior Osana Futi during a held Friday. Futi was killed after he was stabbed at a Fremont house party on April 28. Family and friends have remembered the star football player as a loving, devoted man who was planning to pursue a career in football.

Family of former dance instructor confirmed this week that the woman who was known for teaching generations of Newark residents how to point their toes . Gentry had taught for the City of Newark’s recreation department for 48 years. A celebration of her life was held Saturday.

Newark sixth grader Mahima S. Chilakanti has been recognBalized by the state and county for her analysis of applied mechanics and structures in her science experiment called Tension on Knee Joint and Quadriceps Muscle. Mahima, a student at Challenger Ardenwood School, is one of eight students from Alameda County who were recognized by the Alameda County Office of Education for her participation in the county Science and Engineering Fair and one of six students from Alameda County who was awarded at the .

Authorities who have been searching for a missing South Bay teen who grew up in Fremont have made significant discoveries in her disappearance this week. Investigators close to the disappearance of Sierra LaMar linked to her abduction earlier this week and announced that they believe the 15-year-old who was last seen on March 16
