Week in Review: Local Teen Bakes Her Way To Business, Teacher Layoffs "Disgust" NTA

The Newark Unified Board of Education upset union representatives this week after they that would reduce the district’s certified staff by 26 full-time equivalent positions. Co-presidents with the Newark Teachers Association said they were “disgusted” with the board’s decision. Final layoff notices will later be voted on and issued before May 15.

A man accused of shooting a federal agent in front of his Newark home on Feb. 7 Friday morning to charges of attempted murder and assault with a firearm. Dennis Bagwell, 61, of Piedmont was once a optometry teacher at the Bay Area Optical Schools in Union City where he taught the wife of the man he is accused of shooting.

A Newark Memorial High School special education teacher is as a result of having been arrested in San Francisco, Superintendent Dave Marken confirmed this week. The teacher, whose name is not being disclosed by Patch, was arrested on suspicion of five counts of child endangerment and a misdemeanor battery, but charges were not filed due to “insufficient evidence,” according to Stephanie Ong Stillman, communications director with the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.

I remember as a teacher buying my own supplies. Looking back I don't regret buying anything andRead More realize that each person's teaching style is different. The things I might buy for my classroom would be totally different than you. Running a classroom is a lot like running a business, there are expenses and you just have to deal with that.
