Here are five things you need to know in and around Newark through June 1.

  1. It’s Memorial Day on Monday! And that means most of you have the day off from work and school. So take advantage of your three-day weekend and head down to the Silliman Activity and Family Aquatic Center for . The center’s activity pool, lazy river, water slides and lap pool will be available for use between noon and 5 p.m. today. Cost is $5-$8.
  2. Think that state voter guide is too overwhelming? Well, then come out to the Fremont Library Tuesday to take part in a two-hour discussion about the . The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and aid the Greenlining Institute along with other organizations in learning what information improvements are needed in state voter guides. The event will be held in the Fukaya B Room at the Fremont Library, 2400 Stevenson Blvd.
  3. Seniors, dust off that ukulele and bring it on down to the Newark Senior Center on Wednesday for a taught by instructor Everick Cong. The class will begin at 1 p.m. at the senior center, 7401 Enterprise Dr.

  5. Teens, come off and show off your skills at the pool table. A pool tournament will be held at the at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7. The events are free with paid admission to the Teen Area.
