This Week: July 4 Teen Party, Independence Day Crafts

Here are five things you need to know in and around Newark through July 1.

  1. Local artists are featuring landscapes and still life art in an that ends this weekend. Artists represented are Farshid Namei, Robyn Lyee Leimer, Jaci Daskarolis, and Carol Ramos. The exhibits are in NewPark Mall’s Cultural Corner on the lower level near Sear’s. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.   For details, .
  2. The – a group that acts as a liaison between Newark residents and Evergreen Oil Refinery – will meet Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The general public is also invited to the meeting, which will be held at the Silliman Activity and Family Aquatic Center.
  3. Give the kitchen appliances a break on Wednesday and head down to this week’s . Gourmet food trucks with the Food Truck Mafia will head to the NewPark Mall and serve up dinner between 4:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. Tune back in to Newark Patch on Wednesday morning to find out which food trucks will be serving up dinner.
  4. It may not be July yet but come bring your children to make an Independence Day-themed at the Newark Library this Thursday. At 3:30 p.m., children are invited to make red, white and blue windsocks to celebrate July 4. Participants aren’t required to register but supplies are limited to 40 people.
  5. The celebration of the nation’s independence continues on Friday when Newark teens are invited to gather for a at the Silliman Activity and Family Aquatic Center as part of the city’s Free Friday Festivities for Teens. The event will begin at 4:45 p.m. and is free with paid admission into the teen area.
