This Week: A Walk For Suicide Prevention, Open House for Marine Science and More

Here are five things you need to know in and around Newark through April 29.

  1. The official first party for Newark’s Relay for Life will be held tonight. The gives everyone a chance to learn about how to get involved in the overnight, relay-style fundraising event that features, food, games and fun all while raising money for the fight against cancer. The kick off party will start at 7 p.m. at the Hilton Newark Hotel. for more information.
  2. People with gather at Ohlone Community College’s Fremont campus to help raise awareness on suicide prevention for Ohlone College’s second annual Out of the Darkness Campus Walk, which starts at 11 a.m. for more information.
  3. The Newark Unified School Board of Education will meet for a special board meeting on Tuesday. The board will meet at 7 p.m. and immediately go into closed session to discuss Superintendent’s Evaluation. Visit the school district website here to download the agenda.

  5. The Newark City Council will meet for its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at city hall, 37101 Newark Blvd. Among the items on Thursday’s agenda, city staff is scheduled to present a proposal a hotel marketing program that could cost the city approximately $3,250.
