Registration for an eight-week program that allows community members to learn about the operations of the Newark Police Department is now open.
Applications for the 2013 Spring Newark Citizens Police Academy will be accepted through Feb. 28, and Newark residents and employees who participate will get to learn more about the department's services and structure through discussions and demonstrations.
Among the topics covered are: gangs, drugs, crime scene investigations, firearms, K-9 patrol and SWAT/hostage negotiations.

The next eight-week Academy is scheduled to begin April 11th and run through May 30th, 2013. Sessions will be held on Thursday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the City Administration Building, 37101 Newark Blvd.
Applications are being accepted now through February 28, 2013, space is extremly limited, so apply early.
- Have no prior felony or serious misdemeanor convictions;
- Be willing to have a background check completed;
- Have the ability to attend all scheduled sessions;
- Be at least 21 years old
- Live or work in the City of Newark.
- Due to limited space, prior graduates are not being accepted at this time.
