Patch Picks: Summer Camps

Check out 5 places to send your kids for summer camp in the Tri-City area.

Don't know what to do with your kids this summer? Patch checked out local summer camps that are fun, educational and often dedicated to keeping your kids active and in shape.

Summer may be a few months away but sign-ups are already open or will open soon.

  1. Ohlone for Kids and Teens will open summer class registration on April 11. The classes are for kids grades 4 to 11. Ohlone offers five sessions with classes in arts, performing arts, language arts, English, math and reading, LEGO robotics and electronics, science, social studies and SAT and college preparation. The first session begins June 20 and runs to June 30. Ohlone will publish the course schedule March 28.
  2. The Newark Community Center will offer their popular summer day care program with child care and kids’ activities. Registration opens April 1 for Newark residents and April 4 for non-residents.
  3. Pastor Barbara Caine announced on Newark Patch that plans on hosting summer camp this year in response toΒ school budget cuts. The church is located on 35660 Cedar Blvd. and the program will last eight weeks. Caine says call (510) 656-1468 for more information.
  4. The city of Fremont will hold its Spy Academy this summer. The week-long program will teach future spies how to solve cases with mad scientist skills. Children, ages 5 to 12, will learn how to use equipment like metal detectors and night vision. The first session runs from June 20 to 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for $319.
  5. Fremont is also holding a Fun & Fresh Hip-Hop Camp that fuses jazz and hip-hop along with basic tumbling. The camp strives to increase flexibility, build self-confidence and learn contemporary dance moves all while getting fit. At the end of the week-long camp participants give a performance. The shorter days offer camp from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. for $155 for 5 days, Monday through Friday
