Firefighters Extinguish Outside Fire in Old Town

Fire officials say debris at a junkyard caught fire.

Firefighters battled an outside fire in Old Town that sparked around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Debris at a junkyard in the area of Thornton Avenue and Sycamore Street was found on fire and fire officials extinguished the blaze, Alameda County Fire Department Spokeswoman Aisha Knowles.

Knowles said firefighters from one fire engine responded. Passers-by said smoke was visible throughout the Old Town area.
