Niles Canyon Road Closed Saturday for Construction

Construction crews will close down State Route 84 for a rock slide removal project that runs from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, according to Caltrans.

East Bay commuters who plan on using State Route 84 in Niles Canyon will need to plan an alternate route Saturday due to construction work, according to Caltrans.

Caltrans spokesman Allyn Amsk said crews will close down the road for a rock slide removal project that is scheduled to run from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

According to Amsk, crews will clear rock and debris and work on drainage clean up along the area between Palomares Road to Old Canyon Road in Fremont.

“This maintenance work is critical and must be done to clear the large accumulation of rock slide material that has collected along the base of the hillside between Old Canyon Road and Palomares Road due to the recent wet weather,” Amsk said in a news release.

The roadway will be closed to traffic in both directions during the construction work.

Amsk says drivers traveling west from Interstate 680 will hit a checkpoint at Palomares Road and be instructed to either turn around or drive north on Palomares Road to Interstate 580.

“Large trucks and semi trucks will not be allowed to take Palomares Road due to size constraints on this narrow road,” said Amsk.

I definitely rushed right into the shower when the power went out to avoid the dark! Apparently allRead More the traffic lights were out in the areas you mentioned, as well as the Central/Blacow traffic lights. I wish I knew what happened, I should probably check that out right now. I saw a cop car and fire truck a few houses down on my street.

I remember as a teacher buying my own supplies. Looking back I don't regret buying anything andRead More realize that each person's teaching style is different. The things I might buy for my classroom would be totally different than you. Running a classroom is a lot like running a business, there are expenses and you just have to deal with that.

One story I tried to read had an ad covering 1/4 of it, and there was no way to make it go away.
