News Report: Questions About PG&E Inspections in Three East Bay Cities

Inspections may not have been performed in Livermore, Newark and San Ramon, the Chronicle is reporting.

In the East Bay and in Santa Clara County, critical PG&E inspections that workers said they did actually may not have been completed, according to a story the San Francisco Chronicle published Thursday night.

In 401 cases in the PG&E San Jose Division, the company found the inspections had not been done, the Chronicle reported. And in 1,180 cases in the San Jose and Mission divisions, the company had doubts about whether the checks had been completed. The San Jose Division includes Gilroy, Milpitas and Morgan Hill. The Mission Division includes Livermore, Newark and San Ramon.

Similar questions arose in the wake of the San Bruno PG&E pipeline explosion and fire in 2010.

The Chronicle's story said that in the San Jose and Mission divisions, workers lied about whether inspections had been done. The company has fired or suspended PG&E employees and contract workers as a result.

Don't like it at all. "Change" isn't always for the better.
