Here are five things you need to know in and around Newark through Aug. 28.

  1. The owners of are inviting the community to its official on Monday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The ribbon-cutting will begin about 6 p.m. Appetizers will be served. Sinodinos is located at 36665 Cedar Blvd.
  2. It may be the last week of summer for students who attend but at Challenger School and St. Edward School, students are heading back to the classrooms. ’s academic year begins today and the school year at begins Wednesday, Aug. 24.
  3. Tuesday evening is full of meetings in Newark. Evergreen Oil Refinery invites the public to that will begin at 6:30 p.m. The city’s Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the project at 7 p.m. Tuesday and the will meet in a regular board meeting at 7:30 p.m.
  4. The Washington on Wheels Mobile Health Clinic will be treating uninsured and underserved residents again this week. The Washington Hospital on Wheels van will be at Kennedy High School, 39999 Blacow Road in Fremont, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Newark residents are invited to schedule an appointment by calling 510-608-3203 to make an appointment.
