Grab & Go: Bagpipe Music, Cat Show

Here's a Scottish fair, a cat show, free sailing lessons and country cooking — pick and choose from this week's array of activities.

Where/When: Ardenwood Historic Farm in Fremont; Saturday, April 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Enjoy bagpipe bands, Highland dancing, traditional Scottish food, and historic re-enactments. Plus, a special Children’s Glen with Highland games, arts and crafts, story telling and perhaps even fairies!

Pricing: $8 for adults, $6 for seniors (62+), $5 for children (4-17 yrs.), 3 years and under free

Where/When: Alameda County Fairgrounds; Saturday and Sunday, April 2 and 3. from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Do your kids love cats? Well, this show features over 200 cats and kittens, plus loving cats up for adoption, arts, crafts, gifts and more!

Pricing: $5-$8; $20 family

FREE SAILING DAY OPEN HOUSE

Where/When: 124 University Ave., Berkeley; Sunday, April 3, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: Celebrate the start of the spring sailing season at Cal Sailing's first Open House of the year, where members of the public are welcome to sign up at the clubhouse to go out on the bay and learn how to sail. Children must be 5 or over and accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Pricing: Free

Where/When: Chabot College Performing Arts Center in Hayward; Sunday, April 3. from 10:45 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Check out the longest-running ukulele festival on the mainland with arts and crafts and food vendors.

Pricing: Adults $8 in advance, $10 at the door; children 4 years old and under are free

Where/When: Ardenwood Historic Farm in Fremont; Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: Sample food grown on the farm and discover the history of your favorite old-time snacks!
