Get Ready to Celebrate Newark's Birthday

A few must-knows about the four-day festival and carnival coming to town.

Newark Days is a free four-day festival full of fun for everyone. It began 56 years ago to celebrate the incorporation of the city of Newark, which occurred in 1955. Here’s what you’ll need to know about the celebration.

  • The festival is held outdoors at . 
  • Admission is free, but rides and food will cost you.
  • Bring cash. Costs for rides, games and food will range.
  • Parking is free, but most parking lots are closed off to the public. Many park in nearby streets and walk over.
  • A parade will be held on Saturday, which will result in the closure of Newark and Cedar boulevards between City Hall and Edgewater Avenue beginning at 8 a.m. on Sept. 17.
  • The 27th Newark Mile Run will be held before the parade, beginning at 9 a.m.

The 56th annual Newark Days celebration is taking place at Newark Community Park from Thursday through Sunday.

The carnival portion of the festival will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday; 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday; noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday; and noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
