Free Swim Lessons in May

Local swim academy offers free classes as part of National Water Safety Month

A local swim academy is offering a free swim class at four Bay Area locations during the month of May.

will provide swim lessons for any new members wanting to learn how to swim, according to a press release. The offer is a part of the effort to celebrate National Water Safety Month.

American Swim Academy owner Matt Alberti said he hopes the free offer encourages students who are hesitant about swimming to try swim classes.

"Water safety and learning to swim are crucial. There are many sports and activities for children, but swimming is the only one that can save a life," Alberti said. "We believe that it is vital to get children acclimated to the water at an early age, so they will not develop apprehensions and fears as they get older.

American Swim Academy offers classes year round for all ages starting at six months old. Classes are held daily.

The free classes will be offered at four Bay Area locations:

  • 37400 Cedar Blvd., Newark, 510-794-7946
  • 42400 Blacow Rd., Fremont, 510-657-794
  • 6984 Sierra Ct., Dublin, 925-479-7946
  • 2821 Old First St., Livermore, 925-373-7946

American Swim Academy was founded in 1973 as Fremont Swim School and is owned and operated by the Alberti family, according to the academy's website.
