Drunk Man Tries To Say Hello to Police K-9

A 25-year-old Hayward man was leaving the Salsa Festival at around 8:30 p.m. Sunday when he spotted a Newark Police K-9 patrol car and tried to open the door. Police were able to stop him and arrested him once they determined he was too drunk to care for himself.

Man Injured in House Party Shooting

A 20-year-old man was hospitalized briefly following a shooting at a house party early Saturday morning, police said. Police said they found the victim leaving the scene around 1:30 a.m. with a facial injury sustained from a gunshot, police said. He was treated and released. Authorities said witnesses at the party were uncooperative and there were a “significant number” of documented Norteno gang members at the party. No arrests were made.

Man Hires Prostitute, Invites Pimps for Shrimp, Is Beaten and Robbed By Dinner Guests

Officers responded to some apartments on Cherry Street around 10:20 p.m. Friday to a report of a robbery and quickly learned the victim had hired a prostitute who later came back with her two pimps, police said. Authorities said the victim invited the trio in, they all ate shrimp, then the two pimps began beating the victim and demanding money. No arrests were made.

Thieves Snatch Cash, Purse and Phones in Three Separate Robberies

Two employees of local businesses and a woman were Thursday, according to Newark police. The first of the series of robberies was at the off Newark Boulevard that was reported to police just after 1 p.m. About five hours later, police said a woman reported two men approached her as she was walking on the 39800 block of Parada Street and took her purse and phone. The last robbery reported Thursday was called into police around 10:50 p.m. at on Cedar Boulevard. Police said an employee reported that two suspects struck him in the hed, stole a white 16-GB iPhone with a black case with a Pittsburg Steelers logo on it and fled.

Man Caught Stealing Admits Guilt

A 31-year-old man was caught pushing a baby stroller with a suit that was reported stolen from around 2 p.m. Thursday. The responding officer saw the suit in plain site and once questioned by officers, the man admitted he had taken items from TJ Maxx also. Men’s Wearhouse did not want to charge the man so all merchandise were returned to both stores and the man was released.

Duo Steals Used Cooking Oil

A 47-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of grand theft early Wednesday morning. Police said an employee of a used cooking oil recycling company was going to work when he saw the man and woman – both residents of Modesto – steal oil during his collection route. The employee said he saw the two load up their truck with oil from various restaurants and then called police. Officers made contact with the suspects who were “emptying an oil vat” behind a restaurant. The two were booked into Santa Rita Jail.

Trio Steals Car Parts from Junk Yard

Three Sacramento residents were arrested Monday after a police officer saw the trio seemingly tampering with electrical wiring boxes by just before 3 a.m. Police later learned that they had stolen catalytic convertors and more from the Pick-N-Pull Yard off Mowry Avenue. All of them were arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of grand theft auto.

Assault and Battery

A 31-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assault and battery after officers responded to’s food court to a report of fighting and learned that the victim was punched by the suspect. The woman was booked into Fremont Jail.

Burglary and Theft

A 42-year-old Union City man was arrested on suspicion of theft and possession of stolen property after police responded to a report of a burglary in the Lake area around 3:10 p.m. and saw the suspect enter a home’s unlocked gate and steal a bicycle. While searching the man, police found he was in possession of a social security card, mail, checkbooks and other personal documents.

A 25-year-old man was arrested around 11:30 a.m. Friday in Sunnyvale after police identified him as a suspect wanted in connection with theft of jewelry from from NewPark Mall. Macy’s loss prevention team told police officers the man was wanted for five separate incidents in different cities and planned to charge him for all five crimes.

A car’s window was smashed and a GPS unit was stolen out of a car at the . Another car’s window was also smashed around 9 a.m.

Two laptop computers were stolen from a car parked in the parking lot some time between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Thursday. Police said the suspects broke a front window in order to take the items.

A home on the 37300 block of Elm Street was burglarized. Police responded around 3:35 p.m. and learned the front door had been forced open and thieves took gold jewelry from the home.

A cell phone and wallet were stolen from an unlocked car on the 6200 block of Zulmida Avenue around 10 a.m. Thursday.

A stereo was stolen from a car on the 37900 block of Cedar Boulevard. The owner reported around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday that the car was also vandalized with paint.

A 22-year-old Union City man was arrested on suspicion of fraud at around 4 p.m. Tuesday and was booked into Fremont Jail.

A 32-year-old Richmond man was arrested on suspicion of commercial burglary and possession of narcotics at around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

Drugs and Alcohol

A 28-year-old Union City man was arrested and cited on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after an officer stopped him for driving onto oncoming traffic on Thornton Avenue around 12:50 a.m. Saturday.

Miscellaneous

A 55-year-old woman was arrested on multiple misdemeanor warrants around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and while she was being searched before being booked, police said she tried swallowing a baggie full of meth and was immediately hospitalized. After being treated, she was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
