Bird Crash Knocks Out Power Monday

PG&E says 1,500 Newark customers lost power Monday morning.

Newark residents asked Patch about a some power outages that occurred in the past month. 

One Newark Patch reader wanted to know why her neighborhood lost power overnight Monday.

She posted this question on our Patch shoutbox.

: Does anyone know what caused power outage last night until 3 a.m.? All of Spruce, Jarvis and area of Bridgepointe Park?

Pacific Gas and Electric spokeswoman Fiona Chan told Newark Patch that crews first received calls about the power outage at 1:15 a.m. Monday.

“A bird flew into a power line on 8000 block of Enterprise Drive,” Chan said.

According to Chan, more than 1,500 customers were affected by the power outage.

“Crews worked as quickly as possible to restore power,” Chan said.

Chan says this is the timeline for power restoration:

  • 3:45 a.m.: Power restored to all but 40 customers.
  • 4 a.m.: Power restored to 27 customers.
  • 9 a.m.: Power restored to remaining 13 customers.
