Bargain Hunting Alert: Find Yard Sales Nearby

We'll publish this weekly so you know how to plan all your used-good treasure hunting each weekend.

Here's our guide to finding local yard and garage sales around town and nearby.

(1) Check the Newark Patch event calendar page for garage sales. (You can always post your own sales by logging in and then clicking here.)

(2) Find a treasure trove of sales nearby on Craigslist. (We've already programmed the search, so click on in and find relevant listings nearby in Newark, Union City, Fremont, Hayward and Castro Valley.

(3) YardSaleSearch.com also seems to have a number of Bay Area listings. Find them all here.

Today PG&E told me that about 3,000 customers (homes and businesses) in Newark and Fremont were…Read More without power from 7:57 p.m. to about 11 p.m. (I think ours went out a few minutes before that and I'm sure ours came on before 9 p.m. I suppose maybe some of those 3000 folks were out longer as they brought neighborhoods back up gradually, but my guess is that some bureaucrat guessed at the beginning that the outage "should" last 3 hours, and that became historical "fact.") due to a "device failure." (Now that's informative. My guess remains that wind was involved.) They called and left a message on my Comcast voice mail to let me know the power was out and that it should be back on by 11 - but my phones require power so I didn't get the message until this morning. I just called PG&E to change the number they call with such notifications to my cell, but they were able to clarify nothing else. Anyway, in case you were wondering, that is what PG&E now says happened.
