5 Things You Need to Know This Week: Feb. 28 - March 3

This week: learn more about Alameda County's transportation plans, take a walk with your neighbors and give blood.

  1. Learn more about the Alameda Countywide Transportation Plan by attending an informational workshop at the Fremont Public Library in Fukaya Room A, 2400 Stevenson Blvd., on Monday, Feb. 28 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. There will be an opportunity to discuss plans and residents' needs at the meeting, which will influence the transportation plans. A follow-up meeting is scheduled for the fall.
  2. Head over to the IHOP, 5687 Jarvis Ave., from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. for free pancakes on National Pancake Day. Participants will receive one complimentary short stack. All they ask for in return is that you consider leaving a donation for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and other designated charities. 
  3. Take a walk with your neighbors on Tuesday, March 1. and Thursday, March 3. from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the , 35501 Cedar Blvd. The walking group, which starts on March 1, is scheduled to meet every Tuesday and Thursday morning to walk laps around the park. The free walking group is open to all ages.
  4. Quilt makers gather at , 35660 Cedar Blvd., on the first Tuesday of every month, including this Tuesday, March 1, at 6:15 p.m. The non-profit Piecemakers Quilt Guild of Southern Alameda County’s meeting runs from 6:45 to 9:15 p.m. and promotes quilt making.
  5. Give blood at ’s Blood Drive this Wednesday, March 2. From 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., people can look for the American Red Cross bus parked by Macy’s to give blood. Appointments can be made online or over the phone, 1-800-RED CROSS. Donors with type O blood are especially needed.
