Tri-City Residents Launch International Filipino TV Show

The Sansu Show is written and created by three Newark residents.

A trio of Tri-City residents are making International television history.

Susan Ramsey, better known as Sansu, debuted as the first Black-Filipino American host for GMA Pinoy TV, one of two major Filipino TV networks available in the United States, in late June.

Directed by former Patch contributor , The Sansu Show is the Filipino TV network’s first variety talk show, according to the team behind the show. The two are both Newark residents.

Starring Ramsey, the program showcases Filipino communities in the U.S. and airs weekly in both the U.S. and Canada. The show features inspiring, talented and successful Filipino Americans, Guanga said.

Featured guests range from businesses and professionals to artists and athletes – including former KTVU reporter Lloyd LaCuesta, Union City’s and former American Idol star Thia Megia.

As the daughter of comedian and singer Elizabeth Ramsey, Ramsey has been in show business for more than 25 years, but she didn't think about hosting her own variety show until last year, which she created with fellow Newark resident Dennis Wadlington.

Her hope was to bring a show that would be different than other programs on GMA PinoyTV.

“I want people to laugh at the end of the show. I want them to have a good feeling,” said Ramsey, who described the family-oriented show as one that empowers the community and bridges generational gaps.

While some of the guests are well-known Filipino Americans, Ramsey said she is most interested in recognizing successful Filipinos who are simply community oriented.

“We showcase people in all walks of life,” Ramsey said. “I want to show that Filipinos don’t just know how to sing and dance … I want to show that we’re in every community and active in every community we’re in.”

In a press release, Ramsey said, “I want to entertain my multi-cultural and intergenerational viewers with an upbeat, modern, wholesome, and family-focused program, showcasing local personalities, young achievers, and national artists – to mention a few. The Sansu Show is about relationships.”

The show airs at 7:10 p.m. on Sundays in California. See the media gallery above to find a video of highlights from the show.
