The Price is Right: Let Them Eat Cupcakes

Patch looks at specialty cupcake shops in the Tri-City area.

Cupcakes are a serious trendy treat, with people picking these tasty mini-cakes up from specialty cupcake shops, grocery stores and more.

As bakeries specializing in cupcakes pop up all over the Tri-City and older bakeries add the popular item to their menus, cupcake lovers are flocking to their stores to stock up on their favorite treats individually or by the dozen.

The Cupcake Divas, a made-to-order cupcake catering company in Union City, offers cupcakes and mini cupcakes by the dozen.

Pick up a dozen of their standard flavors for $24. Each order has a one dozen minimum, with one flavor available per dozen.

Their mini cupcakes come in sets of 24, one flavor per two dozen cupcakes, with a two dozen minimum order.

Upgrade to their specialty flavors, $48 for two dozen minis or $36 for one dozen regular-sized cupcakes.

Cupcakes can also be purchased as boxed favors starting at $4 each. Add decorations for 50¢ and up. Sprinkles and sparkle dust are free.

Not looking to devour a whole dozen? Let’s Cupcake, 5849 Jarvis Ave., sells cupcakes individually, too.

Pick up one of their traditional flavors like Classic White, Orange Dream Cream or Mellow Yellow Lemon with your choice of frosting, butter cream or whipping cream.

Looking to indulge? Let’s Cupcake offers specialty flavors such as a dark chocolate cupcake filled with sweet raspberry mousse and topped with whipping cream; a white cupcake filled with a rich pistachio mousse and topped with whipping cream and Ritz crackers; and a Rocky Road Madness Chocolate cupcake with rich chocolate frosting, topped with marshmallows, walnuts and hot fudge.

The traditional flavors are $2.25 each and the specialty cupcakes cost $3.50 each. Flavors vary daily, and an order of a dozen or more requires 24-hour notice.

Sweet E’s Cupcakes is located in Fremont but delivers to Newark and Union City. Classic cupcake flavors include red velvet, coconut, chocolate mint and lemon.

Cupcakes cost $2 each or $24 for a dozen. Sweet E's also has a menu of specialty cupcakes for $3 each or $36 per dozen. Specialty cupcakes include S’mores, Boston Cream Pie, Tres Leches, Reese’s Pieces and more.

Don’t see the flavor you like on their menu? Sweet E’s Cupcakes says they will do their best to bake the cupcake you had in mind.

Minimum orders for cupcakes are one dozen regular-sized cupcakes and two dozen mini cupcakes. The minimum order for minis is two dozen per flavor, while regular cupcakes must be ordered at one dozen per flavor. Giant cupcakes are available in classic flavors for special order at $35.

Power goes out all the time in my area off Mayhews and Willow. I have filed numerous complaintsRead More with PG&E. It was off for two days a month ago. All underground lines and goes out at least 2 times a month. Have to reset my clocks, wifi etc. very irritating.

There's been some construction going on at the north end of Lake Blvd, just before the freewayRead More overpass leading into Ardenwood Park. That's been going on for about the last 7-8 business days.

Today PG&E told me that about 3,000 customers (homes and businesses) in Newark and Fremont wereRead More without power from 7:57 p.m. to about 11 p.m. (I think ours went out a few minutes before that and I'm sure ours came on before 9 p.m. I suppose maybe some of those 3000 folks were out longer as they brought neighborhoods back up gradually, but my guess is that some bureaucrat guessed at the beginning that the outage "should" last 3 hours, and that became historical "fact.") due to a "device failure." (Now that's informative. My guess remains that wind was involved.) They called and left a message on my Comcast voice mail to let me know the power was out and that it should be back on by 11 - but my phones require power so I didn't get the message until this morning. I just called PG&E to change the number they call with such notifications to my cell, but they were able to clarify nothing else. Anyway, in case you were wondering, that is what PG&E now says happened.

I remember as a teacher buying my own supplies. Looking back I don't regret buying anything andRead More realize that each person's teaching style is different. The things I might buy for my classroom would be totally different than you. Running a classroom is a lot like running a business, there are expenses and you just have to deal with that.

It's definitely a great photo! We didn't anticipate it to stretch like that. We'll change itRead More eventually, but your friend should have enough time to check it out, John.

James, I completely understand and agree. The image is stretched beyond the dimensions it was meantRead More to be viewed, but it was a pleasant surprise to see the photo at the top of the page! I hope it stays up for at least another day so my friend can see it. Thanks for your reply.

One story I tried to read had an ad covering 1/4 of it, and there was no way to make it go away.

Don't like it at all. "Change" isn't always for the better.
