PG&E Settles Nearly All Remaining Lawsuits

As survivors of the PG&E gas pipeline explosion and fire reverently marked the third anniversary Monday of the explosion and fire that forever altered their neighborhood, their lawyers and PG&E attorneys settled all but two remaining lawsuits.

According to a company spokeswoman, money for the settlement will come from investors, not ratepayers.

"It's a huge deal. The clients are getting what we felt is a very fair settlement for them under the circumstances," attorney George Corey told the San Jose Mercury News. "It took a long time for PG&E lawyers to get the company to stand up to the serious facts of this case. But they finally did, and it was fair."
When added to previous settlements, PG&E has now paid a total of $565 million to settle lawsuits from the San Bruno explosion.
