NewPark Food Truck Gatherings End

According to media reports, NewPark Street Eats has been canceled.

Weekly food truck events in Newark known as the will no longer be held, according to media reports.

The Fremont Argus reported Thursday that the Food Truck Mafia, who manages food truck gatherings throughout cities in Alameda and Santa Clara counties, have decided to pull the plug.

Food Truck Mafia Event Coordinator April Bibbins told the Argus that Newark's food truck meetups have not experienced high foot traffic compared to its surrounding cities, despite NewPark Mall management's efforts to advertise the group's presence.

Mall officials said they expect the trucks occasionally to return to Newark, but probably just for big events or holidays, such as Halloween. Other events there, meanwhile, continue to enjoy profits and large crowds, said Kelly Gardner, general manager of NewPark Mall.

"We still have the farmers market every Sunday morning, which continues to be a huge success," Gardner said. "We have festivals and the circus still comes here."

Food truck events in Newark launched in June 2011. Bibbins told The Argus that food truck gatherings will continue in Fremont and Union City.
