Food Trucks Return for NewPark Street Eats

It’s almost time to grub – gourmet food truck style.

returns Wednesday night at the NewPark Mall, but with a new location and some enhancements.

Each week until Oct. 31, up to 10 food trucks of various tastes will serve up dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. near the mall entrance near .

The Food Truck Mafia brings in all participating trucks and the weekly event is held by the Food Truck Mafia in collaboration with and the Newark Chamber of Commerce.

“We want to make Wednesday nights the ‘No Cook’ night of the week, where customers can gather, try new gourmet food and experience the stores that NewPark has to offer,” said NewPark Mall General Manager Kelly Gardner.

Food Truck Mafia Coordinator April Bibbins said just as it was last year, the Food Truck Mafia events will feature live music and tables and chairs provided by the NewPark Mall will be set up.

New this year, though, are Truck Bucks.

When shoppers who spend at least $35 at stores inside the NewPark Mall, excluding the mall’s anchor stores, redeem their receipts the same day from mall personnel who will be out there, they can receive $5 Truck Bucks that are good for any truck.

But that’s not the only promotion NewPark Mall will be offering.  

Gardner said in the summer the mall will offer opportunities to win gift cards and other promotions.

And no event will be like the former. Food trucks will be rotating and newer food trucks have recently joined the Food Truck Mafia, Bibbins said.

Among the new trucks to visit Newark on Wednesday are:

• Curry Up Now, an Indian street food truck
• Sanguchon, a Peruvian sandwich truck
• Twister Truck, a Mexican grill with a twist and
• We Sushi, a mobile sushi spot
