San Jose Airport Back To Normal After Water Main Break

Mineta San Jose International Airport's Terminal A is operating normally this morning following a water main break that partially shut down the terminal on Monday, an airport spokeswoman said. At about 5:30 a.m. today, airport spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes said that passenger operations and security checkpoints have been fully restored in time for early morning flights. At about 2:15 a.m. Monday, a hot water line broke in Terminal A, sending a couple of inches of standing water into the "skybridge" area of the terminal, which connects pedestrians from the parking garage to the security area, Barnes said. Monday's emergency resulted in some delayed flights and "a few" cancellations, Barnes said. The checkpoint lanes were partially reopened on Monday and passengers were screened on a limited basis, she said. Services for premium and first-class passengers were not available in Terminal A until this morning, she said.

Travelers are being advised to arrive at the airport 90 minutes before domestic flights and two hours before Hawaii-bound and international flights, Barnes said. According to Barnes, crews worked through the night to open four of the eight security checkpoint screening lanes in Terminal A. While the cause of the water main break remains under investigation, Barnes said preliminary information suggests that a failed joint caused the rupture. No cancellations or delays are anticipated this morning as a result of the main break, according to Barnes.
