In an aggressive move to keep customers coming, the movie theater near has slashed admission prices to as low as 75-cents for some performances.
Most tickets at the 30-year-old multiplex are now $2, or $2.50 for weekend evening shows.
But deals are abound, with seniors, 62-year-old and older being admitted for $1 all day on Mondays, and everyone admitted for $1 on Tuesdays, except on holidays.
A special “Reel Family Time” deal on Mondays offers admission at just 75-cents per person for parties of three or more.
By comparison, movie tickets at newer theaters range from $10 to $15 or more depending on the movie title and time of day.
The price cuts were prompted by the recent complex in Fremont, said Mark Galang, an assistant manager at Cinedome 7.
“It started slowly because a lot of people didn’t know about it at first,” Galang said. “But over time it’s picked up. We’re distributing fliers to get the word out and people are responding.”
One thing that hasn’t changed at the theater is the concession area. Galang said all the customer favorites are still there, including popcorn, candies, soft drinks and other snacks.
The prices, however, have not been discounted, but Galang said customers can get discount coupons by going to the company’s Facebook page and clicking the “like” button.
The films shown at Cinedome 7 are mostly newer titles that are still completing their theatrical runs.
Galang said both the Cinedome 7 and the Century at Pacific Commons are operated by Cinemark, so there isn’t really competition between the two venues. The lower-price strategy in Newark is designed to keep as many seats filled as possible.
Headquartered in Plano, Texas, Cinemark operates 459 theaters in the United States and Latin America. In addition to the Newark and Fremont theaters, Cinemark also operates the Century Great Mall in Milpitas, and the Century 25 Union Landing in Union City.
