Alameda County Applauds Newark USD Teacher
Corina Resendez-Rojo, 2013 Teacher of the Year, will be lauded in Newark on Monday.
The Alameda County Office of Education Superintendent will visit Bridgepoint High School on Monday to personally congratulate the Newark Unified School District’s Teacher of the Year.
Corina Resendez-Rojo teaches economics and government.
“Her classes are truly remarkable,” said Dave Marken, Newark USD Superintendent. “Ms. Rojo works hard each and every day to teach kids how to write effectively in her social studies domain,” Marken told Patch. “She consistently pushes herself and others to strive for excellence,” Marken said.
Rojo was chosen as the school district’s teacher of the year, because her classes are full of her boundless energy and enthusiastic spirit, according to her colleagues. Outside of the classroom, she works with parents and their children to overcome emotional and social obstacles at the MacGregor Alternative Education Center. She does this in both English and Spanish.
Bridgepoint High School's Principal said her leadership skills surpass her current position.
“I dream of one day enticing her out of her classroom in order for her to become a principal,” Thomas Orput told Patch.
Sheila Jordan, Alameda County’s Superintendent will visit the school on Monday, Sept. 23., to recognize Rojo for her contributions to an environment that fosters academic excellence.
