Journey to Miss California: Five Weeks Until the Pageant Starts!

Update on my progress for Miss California Pageant representing Newark, CA

Hello friends and family! I wanted to give you all an update on my Miss California Pageant journey.

Earlier this week I attended the official Miss California Orientation. I learned a lot of valuable information. I was excited to see the other 200 beautiful women that will be running.

It was also exciting to see last years winner, Natalie Pack. She spoke and gave us all some great tips on how to do well in the pageant. We were informed about what the judgement criteria would be in greater detail. The preliminaries will be held on Saturday, January 12th.

All the women will first be judged in swimsuit, then in interview, and ending with the evening gown segment. The following day, Sunday, will be the finals. All the women will be on stage for the finals, but only the top 20 will ranked by points.

The top 20 will first compete in swimsuit, then there will be an elimination. Then the top 10 will compete in evening gown, then there will be an elimination. Then, the final 5 women will compete in interview live on stage! And then winner will be announced. The pageant is in 5 weeks! I’m really excited, and can’t believe the time is almost here.

Thanks to all of your help and support, I have raised $1,800 that I used to cover all the pageant entrance fees. My goal is to raise another $1,000 before pageant weekend 1/12/13.

Please keep donating; I need your donations now more than ever. The more money I raise the better chance I have at doing well in the pageant.

There are still a lot of expenses I have left to pay for such as travel, cosmetics, wardrobe and alteration fees that I am currently having to pay out of pocket. If I receive more donations that is more time I can devote to preparing myself mentally and physically for the pageant.

My goal is to at least place in the top 20, I really believe I have an excellent shot at accomplishing that but aiming to walk away with the crown.

The Miss California Pageant Tickets will be going on sale this week via ticketmaster.com, they currently aren’t on sale yet but keep checking ticketmaster. The ticket prices range from $60 to $120.

The pageant sells out quickly so I urge you to buy your tickets as soon as possible. For those of you that can’t afford to come to the pageant, the pageant will be available on payperview, and will be posted online via a live web broadcast. I will post more details about that information very soon.

With five weeks left to go I am currently working daily on various things so I will be at my top level by pageant weekend. Here are some of the things I have been doing to prepare myself physically and mentally; Im currently doing circuit training workouts 4 days a week at the gym that combines resistance training and cardio. I have continued eating a well balanced diet with lots of fruit and raw vegetables, fish, eggs, no dairy, all organic. Reading and watching the news daily to stay updated on current events. I visited Sephora and have created a new skin regiment that has been working great. I also bought some new makeup for the pageant that is long wear, water proof and healthy for the skin. I have been practicing doing my makeup and hair, because all the contestants must do their own hair and makeup and cannot have any assistance from other people.

More updates coming soon! Check back if you want to stay in touch with my progress

Love,

Ashley Balderston

Believe me when I state that I would love for our Small Town to be put onto a MAP where people actually can see us. However the Continued Exploitation & Objectification of Women is Troubling to say the least. I do NOT approve of this Pageant, Point Blank.
This Young Woman has chosen to Enter into a World where she is Judged NOT on her Intelligence, Honor, or Merit but instead IF she causes Boners. Disgusting! This is why Sexual Crimes exist, this is why I as a Male cannot pass by any female in public without undressing her with my eyes. Society says it's OK to Label Women based on how Fat or Skinny they are, how big their Boobs are etc. This is a Prime Example of everything that's wrong with the World!

But actually, the program is about scholarship, presentation skills and intelligence. It's a great program and a life changing opportunity. Congratulations to Ashley! Job well done.

Rob,
I'm literally Scoffing at you right now! LOL
Joe96 December 12, 2012 at 02:32 pm
Nelson your such an idiot, and probably gay.
James Nelson December 12, 2012 at 02:42 pm
Joe,
Looks like your the Idiot, as my Original Comment is half Tongue in Cheek. Why do you think most didn't care to comment? Think before you Type, it will get you farther in Life! Didn't you notice how I included the comment about how I undress women with my Eyes? In case you haven't paid Attention most of my Replies are in a Sarcastic Tone. I can always count on dipshits like you though to respond with "Idiot Remarks" whereby outing yourself as one. Ohh, the Truth hurts. :P
James Nelson December 12, 2012 at 02:44 pm
Oh and in case you are unable to comprehend what I just said...
It's called the "Bait & Switch* Tactic. Wink. What a dumbass!

Ashley is not Miss Newark! I don't know why they listed her as a Miss Newark. Newark way back in the day did have a Miss Newark pageant but not anymore. I do know another young lady from Newark who was in the pageant last year and another one from Newark this year. Get it right patch! Oh and any girl who comes up with the cash basically makes the cut. There is not enough Nor Cal girls to enter. Good luck girls! It would be amazing to have someone from Newark to win this.....to put us on the map with some GOOD news for once!
Ashley Balderston December 12, 2012 at 03:44 pm
James thank you for expressing your feelings to me and everyone about how you feel about pageants. I feel it is disrespectful to post that on my blog but that is your prerogative. This is what I want to do and there is a lot of opportunity for growth especially for someone like me who loves modeling and networking with people in that industry.
I dont know where it says I am Miss Newark anywhere, it says I am representing Newark. There are plenty of nor cal girls who will be on stage with me, 220 girls that are competing total. I really hope I can put Newark on the map and go far in the pageant Thanks for the good luck my way =] Rob thanks so much for your kind words. This is defiantly a huge life changing opportunity for me and I have to put a lot of work into this. Everything you said was spot on. Thanks for your support.

Ashley,
I understand this is something you want to do, but I don’t understand why you would say you feel disrespected by a post that is a different opinion than yours. James has also stated that his post was sarcastic . Unfortunately some of what he posted should give one time to stop and ponder … This society does put too much pressure on us women for how we look. James I love your sarcasm, but then again I was always told if I was to have a superhero name it would be “Sarcasmo”.

I helped run the Snack Shack for 10 years presented a Binder to Coach with all Accounting of allRead More monies provided for deposit - Its real simple if any Booster member requests to see Books - Give them the Books for review - I do not understand why this has not been done - Even if seen in 2010 this is 2013 and things change and the Membership is entitled to regular Audits on the money they worked so hard to raise. So produce, show and review!!!!!

Oh this opens up NMHS like a can of worms. There have been suspicions of this for years regardingRead More Rich Swift at the annual Crab Feed, Margaret Jean at the 4th of July Fireworks sales, Stacey Kelly snackshack, and how about Edna, shes always at the gate taking the money. Im glad someone with balls is getting this out in the public. Yes, the money needs to be counted and deposited by a committee and not the individual in charge as has been the case for many years. While were on the subject of NMHS, what about the rumors that Rich Swift threw away letters from colleges for prospective athletes. Rumor has it there were many letters found in his drawers after his death.

Good response Teddy, and truth.
Bong Sativa June 17, 2013 at 05:57 am
The more likely explanation is that the vast majority of Newark Police officers lack the requisiteRead More aptitude & agility necessary to fill shopping bags with groceries & didn't want to do anything to further embarrass themselves while under the scrutiny of the bewildered shoppers like James.
Teddy June 17, 2013 at 12:12 pm
Bong Sativa maybe you can meet Officer Indica.
Shimadog June 15, 2013 at 10:10 am
Could it be that, because busloads of inner city non resident children jam the place, someone wiselyRead More decided to make the hours available to Newark taxpayers first?
Audrey June 15, 2013 at 10:27 am
Yes they are walking as I write this! but it is not to late to sponsor them! please!!!
Mona Taplin June 13, 2013 at 04:03 am
This probably sounds heartless, but it sounds like this house should be condemned before a tragedyRead More occurs. I doubt if any organization can bring it up to code because of the cost. It's really sad to see this happening to a working person in this country.
Adam Moe June 13, 2013 at 09:47 am
I'm not sure if your mom will qualify but there are lines of credit out there that she can get as aRead More home owner. It will require her to have the income to pay back small portions at a time. Not trying to make it harder just trying to help. See about it online or let me know more and I'll see what I can do to help.
Teddy June 16, 2013 at 07:00 am
Mona Taplin you are right on re: all your remarks.
Tony June 16, 2013 at 05:33 pm
Thanks James!, You know it's amazing when somebody puts their own personal time to learn andRead More understand something and then you share it... I would have been more then glad to explained myself in more detail face-to-face because I may learn something myself but like a marriage you don't get on here and start posting every little detail about you and your wife and I'm not going to get on here and start posting every little detail about my past employer`s. So to whoever flagged me you could have simply posted a disagreement and I'm open-minded and can admit when I make a mistake...I would've simply deleted my post if you could've proved it wrong.

Tony, You are an upstanding individual, glad you joined the Patch! ;)

I would also like to point out that I have on two other occasions asked this Mike Bucci guy the sameRead More question and each time I am Ignored. If this is what us Newark Residents can expect from an aspiring Politician then he can keep his day job! We already have enough Status Quo people in our gov failing to answer the simple questions.

Landline? That's like so 15 years ago! People still do home telephone services? Wow!
