'Newark Days' Schedule Unveiled

Get your jazz hands ready, the show's about to begin. Here's the lineup.

The City of Newark is celebrating its 58th birthday this weekend with games, live performances, and a parade. The 2013 theme of the city's annual 'Newark Days' celebration is All That Jazz, so get your sparkling top hats ready. 

We've complied an easy-to-view schedule of the four-day event, so you can take it with you and pull it up on your cell phone as you roam through the Newark Community Center Park.  
 

[Thursday, Sept. 19]

6-9 p.m.  Carnival on MacGregor Playfied

On opening night, all the rides are only one dollar.  


[Friday, Sept. 20]


5-10:30 p.m.  Carnival on MacGregor Playfield

6-10 p.m.  Community Food and Game Booths on the Carnival Grounds

PERFORMANCES

6-6:45 p.m.  Stage Show Featuring K&K Twirlers on the Jazz Hot Stage Area #10

7-8 p.m.  Stage Show featuring Legacy Big Band on the Jazz Hot Stage Area #10



[Saturday, Sept. 21]


7-8:30 a.m.  Register for the 29th Annual “The Newark Mile” 4K Fun Run and Walk ($20)

9-10 a.m.  29th Annual Newark Mile takes the Parade Route

9:45-10:45 a.m.  Jazz on Parade takes center stage on Newark and Cedar Blvds, featuring MC’s Dave Smith, Bill Fitts, Jim Reese, and Bernie Nillo

Grand Marshal Lesley Laferty will accompany you through the city’s 58th birthday parade and all that jazz.

10 a.m.- 6 pm.  Arts, Crafts, & Trade Faire in Area #8, 19, 20

Also during that time, you can visit the petting zoo at the Friendly Pony Parties and Barnyard Pals in Area #19, 20. 


10 a.m.- 4 p.m.  B&B Pony Party in Area #19, 20

11 a.m.–9 p.m.  Car and Truck Show takes over Tin Pan Alley in Area #11

Noon-10:30  Community Food & Game booths on the Carnival Grounds

The Carnival will be on the MacGregor Playfield during that time.

From noon-7 p.m.  See an “All That Jazz” Performance
 
Dixie Dominus Dixieland Jazz Band & The Dream Achievers Band!  On Area #4, Youth All That Jazz Stage         

Wa-Daiko Newark - Taiko Drums, The FOG (Five Old Guys) Band, Mishla, Newark Symphonic Winds, The Crane and Crow Band, DUB:RAE - vocal  on Area #10, which is The Jazz Hot Stage

2-3:30 p.m.  The Poyntlyss Sistar’s Rockin Show on Area #10’s Jazz Hot Stage

3-3:30 p.m.  The Squeaks on Area #4, Youth All That Jazz Stage

4-5 p.m.  58th Birthday Cake Celebration and Birthday Bash Drawing
on The Jazz Hot Stage, Area #10  (You must be present to collect a prize.)

4-4:30 p.m.  The Squeaks on Area #4, Youth All That Jazz Stage
