Silliman Aquatic Center Re-Opens Friday

The grand re-opening celebration kicks off at 4 p.m., with the first 200 visitors to enter for free. A movie night starts at 7 p.m.

The Silliman Family Aquatic Center will celebrate its grand re-opening this Friday, just in time for Memorial Day Weekend.

According to the City of Newark, the pool party starts at 4 p.m., with the first 200 visitors entering for free. The celebration will include a variety of activities including a “splash-in” movie, Rise of the Guardians, showing at 7 p.m.

The indoor aquatic park closed for repairs just after Labor Day weekend last year. Repairs included the removal of peeling paint and galvanized surfaces. Workers sand blasted the surfaces, cleaned and repainted it using special epoxy paints, according to the City of Newark.

The aquatic center — which features water slides, a “lazy river,” lap pool and 15-person warm water spa — will stay open through the holiday weekend.

But with the new upgrades comes a slight bump in youth and senior drop-in rates. According to the City of Newark, the changes are as follows:

  • Youth (3-11 yrs.): $5 to $6
  • Youth (12-17 yrs.): $6 to $7
  • Adults (18-54 yrs.): $8 (no change)
  • Senior (55-69 yrs.): $6 to $7
  • Senior (70+ yrs.): $5 to $6
Multi-use and season pass rates were not increased, according to the City of Newark.

Aquatic camps, birthday packages and swimming lessons are also available.

If you’re thinking about taking a dive at the center, you can take advantage of this Groupon promo, which offers a day pass for two adults and two children for $14 or a day pass for two adults and four children for $20. The deal ends May 31.
