Seniors Offered Free Health Screenings in October Health Faire

Low-cost immunizations will also be available for seniors.

Seniors are invited to learn more about healthy living and get low-cost immunizations next month.

Newark will be hosting its annual Health and Resource Faire for Seniors on Oct. 23 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The event will allow seniors to receive free health screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and osteoporosis. Low-cost immunizations and pneumonia shots will also be available.

Seniors who are on Medicare will be given flu shots for free, but a Medicare card must be present in order for seniors to receive this. Otherwise, flu shots will be offered at the cost of $5. Pneumonia shots, which are recommended for seniors ages 65 and older, will be available for the cost of $55.

Local agencies that offer programs and services for seniors will also be on hands at the event and free refreshments will be available.
