Seniors Offered Free Health Screenings in October Health Faire

Low-cost immunizations will also be available for seniors.

Seniors are invited to learn more about healthy living and get low-cost immunizations next month.

Newark will be hosting its annual Health and Resource Faire for Seniors on Oct. 23 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The event will allow seniors to receive free health screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and osteoporosis. Low-cost immunizations and pneumonia shots will also be available.

Seniors who are on Medicare will be given flu shots for free, but a Medicare card must be present in order for seniors to receive this. Otherwise, flu shots will be offered at the cost of $5. Pneumonia shots, which are recommended for seniors ages 65 and older, will be available for the cost of $55.

Local agencies that offer programs and services for seniors will also be on hands at the event and free refreshments will be available.

The faire is open to the general public and will be held at the Silliman Activity Center, 6800 Mowry Ave. For more information, call 510-578-4840.
