In a recent press release from the City of Orinda —The City of Orinda staff along with Moraga Orinda Fire District (MOFD) and the Red Cross staff prepared for the Big One!
For four hours participants played the roles they would assume in the City’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) if a disaster occurred.
Dennis Rein, MOFD Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, facilitated the exercise involving a 7.7 magnitude earthquake, a landslide, fires, collapsed buildings, and blocked streets.
The purpose of this table top exercise was to test the City’s communications, resource allocation and EOC management capabilities.
Orinda Union School District (OUSD) staff tested radio communication between the schools and the EOC. Bruce Macler represented the HAM radio operators.
The drill provided participants an opportunity to evaluate the Orinda City Council‘s newly adopted Emergency Operations Plan.
Several guests stopped by to see the exercise in action including OUSD representative, MOFD Fire Chief Bradley, Contra Costa County Supervisor Candace Andersen, Vice-Mayor Amy Worth, and Councilmember Victoria Smith.
