Santa Visits Senior Center To Heighten Holiday Spirit

A special brunch, a special visitor and a special round of Bingo is how the Newark Senior Center welcomed the holiday season.

It just goes to show that Christmas parties aren’t just for kids looking to have a good time and adults wanting an extra Happy Hour. The staff at the Newark Senior Center made sure that the seniors got a party of their own on Dec. 15.

The holiday spirit was alive while staff served seniors a festive brunch as they happily chatted away with one another.

The energy level kicked up a notch with the appearance of the spirit of the holiday season — Santa Claus (otherwise known as staff member Jim Gabel).

He walked around the tables, handing out candy canes to the seniors and leading them in Christmas carols such as “Jingle Bells,” “Deck the Halls” and more.

There was even an opportunity provided for the seniors to take pictures with Santa and get a copy of it as a keepsake of the event.

The activities didn’t stop there for the festivities closed off with a two-hour game of Holiday Bingo. Unlike their regular games of Bingo, the payouts for each game were $30 rather than $25 and the final blackout game offered a $75 payout instead of a $50 payout.
