OAKLAND — Perhaps garage sale fever has struck the city or antiquing has surpassed baseball as a summer tradition, but Newark will host its largest ever, citywide garage sale day on Saturday, June 16.

Now in its 10th year, the Annual Newark Garage Sale event saw a dramatic increase in participation with 176 garage sale listings.

“We had just over 30 signups last year,” said Clay Colvin, the Planning Manager, Community Development for Newark. “People are very excited to be part of this giant garage sale event.”

Starting in May, the city and Waste Management began a campaign for Newark residents to “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” their household items by having their own garage sales. Each participant received a free garage sale kit with a how-to brochure and promotional poster. In addition, an ad promoting all the garage sale listings will appear in the Argus.

The list of garage sales is now available on the city’s web site, or visit http://www.newark.org/calendar-of-events/event/annual-newark-citywide-garage-sale/. The list will also run in the Argus, June 14-16, in the Local section.

“This annual citywide garage sale event is a great example of the collaborative effort needed to continue our waste reduction efforts and create a more sustainable environment in our community,” said Kathleen Minser, Community Relations Manager for Waste Management.

I remember as a teacher buying my own supplies. Looking back I don't regret buying anything andRead More realize that each person's teaching style is different. The things I might buy for my classroom would be totally different than you. Running a classroom is a lot like running a business, there are expenses and you just have to deal with that.
