Remembrances, Photos and Videos from Osana Futi's Memorial Service

A memorial service for a slain Newark Memorial High School senior was held Friday night.

Hundreds gathered Friday night to remember the life of senior Osana Futi in prayer, song and words of hope.

During the nearly two-hour service for Futi, relatives and friends recalled their memories of the 18-year-old man who came from Samoa at the age of 10 and grew up in Newark to become a star football player who was known for a big smile and uplifting spirit.

Futi died on April 29 after he succumbed to injuries he had sustained from a stabbing in Fremont on April 28. He was 18.

His surrogate family plans to transport his body to Samoa on May 17, where he was born and where his biological mother lives.
