Five Things You Need To Know This Week: April 18-24

Learn about light, taste some wine and hear about the state of the city.

1. School-age children can learn about light at the Fremont Library this Tuesday with the Math Science Nucleus Presents – Light Magic. Children will use prisms and other materials to learn more about light and how it reflects. The free program includes several hands-on activities.

2. A new session of Tae Kwon Do for tots starts on Thursday at the. Registration is required and parents should sign up their children, ages 2 to 4, as early as possible to guarantee a spot in the class. Parent participation is required and the last class is scheduled for May 20. The class, which costs $35 for residents and $39 for non-residents, runs from 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. There is no class scheduled for April 28.

3. Newark’s State of the City luncheon is scheduled for Thursday from 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the , 39900 Balentine Dr. Mayor David W. Smith will present.

4. ClubSport will host a wine-tasting social this Thursday at the Vida y Vino Wine Bistro, 43808 Christy St., Fremont, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wine-tasting socials are held on the third Thursday of every month. A white, a red and a sparkling wine will be featured and available for purchase.

5. Sunday, April 24, is Easter. Among many local church services is the Easter Sunday celebration at  , 37590 Sycamore St., starting at 9 a.m.
