Fictionade Magazine provides "engaging, moving fiction" written by new writers, its co-founders say.
A new e-magazine has hit the Internet thanks to two Newark residents. Co-founders Mark Helton and Christopher Wecks have launched Fictionade Magazine – an e-magazine that also serves as a website that allows fiction writers to preserve copyright ownership for their creative works through. The artwork of Newark artist Diego Marcial Rios will return early next month for an limited two-day art exhibit featuring his artwork featuring masks and large paintings that reflects the artist’s Native American (Mayan-Aztec and European heritage. And while the exhibit will be held during Cinco de Mayo, the displayed pieces will feature artwork inspired by Dia de los Muertos. The exhibit will be held on May 5 and 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the NPM Cultural Corner, located on the lower level of NewPark Mall near Sears. Q. Newark Memorial alumni Bianca and Desiree Lejat bring style and inspiration to their handmade jewelry business.
With hundreds of Likes on its Facebook page, local ’Lotta Dreams jewelry business has been a hit since its inception in October 2011. Founded by Newark Memorial High School alumni Bianca and Desiree Lejat, the Fremont residents create earrings, necklaces, rings and other jewelry to sell to customers at a very affordable price, ranging from less than $1 to $10 according to its Facebook page. The concept for ’Lotta Dreams came out of both the girls’ love for jewelry and fashion. “I was at the mall, and I noticed how all the jewelry looked similar,” said Bianca Lejat. “So I figured if I couldn’t find what I wanted at the mall, I decided I can make my own jewelry to my own liking.” Desiree Lejat added, “I was getting really into vintage and…

The Bay Area rapper chose Newark's movie theater for the location of his music video "Magic."
It's not every day you see someone rapping near (and on) Cinedome 7's concession stand and theaters. But Richmond rapper Erk tha Jerk has, and the proof is found on YouTube. In celebration of Cinedome 7 having been in Newark Patch this week, we thought we'd share this discovery. Known for singles like "Right Here" and "Hands Up," the lyrical artist filmed a music video for his single "Magic" at the small movie theater near NewPark Mall. See the video above to check it out. Auditions begin at 10 a.m. Saturday
Saturday is the last day to audition for Stage 1 Community Theatre's summer workshop for children. The non-profit community organization based out of Newark will be holding auditions for the children's program Saturday starting at 10 a.m. at Newark Memorial High School’s theatre. All children and teenagers between ages 5 and 18 are invited to audition for the summer workshop that will lead to six performances of “The Wizard of Oz” in August. The summer workshops will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursdays from June 28 to August 9, with the first performance being held August 10. The cost is $250 for each child who participates.Families who have multiple children who participate pay $150 for additional participants from the …

Move over Glee! Stage 1 Community Theatre is preparing for its last show of the season and its summer workshop for children. The non-profit community organization based out of Newark will be holding auditions for both shows this weekend and performing artists from throughout the region are invited to try out. Ronald Nelson's is featured at the NewPark Mall Cultural Corner through April 30.
New art has invaded the NewPark Mall (NPM) Cultural Corner at NewPark Mall. Artwork by fine art illustrator Ronald Nelson will be displayed at the art center through April 30. Entitled "High Focus," Nelson's exhibit features various artwork focused on mixed media that includes graphite, pencil and ink, according to the NewPark Mall website. The exhibit is free and open to the public from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
