Crime Map: Carjacking Report Turns Out To Be False; Domestic Batteries and DUIs Lead To Arrests

False Carjacking Results In SWAT Standoff
A report of a carjacking in Fremont led authorities to a Newark home on the 36000 block of Cedar Boulevard where a several hours-long standoff ensued on Thursday. Once the standoff ended, authorities said the victim, who said he was beat up during the carjacking, admitted he had fabricated the story. He was arrested on suspicion of filing a false police report and the two suspects were arrested on charges related to drugs and weapons violations.
Man Snatches Box Off Home Porch
Police are looking for a man who took a box that was delivered to a home on the 7700 block of Sunset Avenue around 2:51 p.m. on Tuesday. The homeowner saw the man take the box from the home’s porch. He was last seen driving off in a grey or white Jeep. Click here for the full report.
Assault and Battery
A 24-year-old Newark woman was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery when police responded to a report of a disturbance on Guava Drive around 6 a.m. on Saturday. The woman was booked into Fremont Jail.
Police responded to a report of a fight occurring at the parking lot of Hometown Buffet around 9:40 p.m. on Friday. When they arrived, a 30-year-old San Jose man was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery and a 21-year-old Hayward man was arrested on suspicion of battery. Both men were booked into Fremont Jail.
A 19-year-old San Francisco man was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery when officers responded to Ohlone Community College's Newark campus to a battery in progress around 4:11 p.m. on Wednesday.
Newark police assisted the Mountain View Police Department around 1:20 a.m. Monday when they located the car of a person who was wanted in connection to an assault and protective order violation parked outside of a home on the 37800 block of Cherry Street. Newark police surrounded the home until officers from the Mountain View Police Department arrived. The suspect was arrested by MVPD.
Burglary and Theft
A 67-year-old San Jose man was arrested and cited on suspicion of petty theft from Macy’s at NewPark Mall around 3:11 p.m. on Sunday.
A 23-year-old San Francisco man was arrested on suspicion of petty theft from Macy’s at NewPark Mall just before 2 p.m. on Friday.
Drugs and Alcohol
A 42-year-old homeless man was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication after someone reported seeing him enter an open garage on Cherry Street near Auburn Avenue around 12:15 p.m. on Friday.
A 43-year-old Mira Loma man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after officers responded to Timber Street to a report of someone drag racing around 8:25 p.m. on Wednesday.
A 24-year-old Fremont man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol after officers responded to a solo vehicle accident on Cedar Boulevard at Cedar Court around 12:46 a.m. on Wednesday.
Police responded to a report of a disturbance on the 6300 block of Baine Avenue around 2:30 a.m. on Monday and arrested two men, ages 33 and 55. The 33-year-old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a hypodermic syringe and the 55-year-old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia. They were both cited and released.
Miscellaneous
A wanted East Palo Alto man was arrested by East Palo Alto police officers after Newark police learned that he was inside of the Mi Pueblo Supermarket on Newark Boulevard around 12:05 p.m. on Sunday.
While police were investigating a disturbance on Spruce Street around 3:40 a.m. on Saturday, a 19-year-old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest and delaying an investigation. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
A 39-year-old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of violating a restraining order and parole around 11:55 p.m. on Wednesday when officers responded to Dichondra Place to a report of a disturbance.
