Congressman Pete Stark To Hold Town Meetings on Jan. 21
The congressman announces he will hold two town meetings, one in Fremont and the other in San Lorenzo.

Congressman Pete Stark will be holding two town hall meetings in Southern Alameda County next week, according to a note released from his office.
Stark represents numerous East Bay cities including Newark, Union City, Fremont and San Lorenzo.

Creating jobs and making our economy work for all Americans must be Congress’ top priorities. Yet under the House Majority this year, we’ve accomplished little to help get our economy back on track. Instead, we’ve spent our time voting on bills destined to fail in the Senate.We’ve taken numerous votes to repeal health reform, weaken environmental protections and slash critical government investments like medical research and education.
In the coming year, Congress needs to come together to put our economy on solid ground and rebuild the middle class. We must invest in infrastructure to put people to work rebuilding our crumbling roads, bridges, and schools. We must ensure that our teachers, police and firemen are kept on the job, not downsized under shrinking state budgets. We must create fairness in our tax code so deficit reduction doesn’t happen on the backs of middle class families, children, and senior citizens.
I will continue working to protect health reform. The new law is good for Americans’ health and it is good for our pocketbooks. A recent report by the Georgetown University Health Policy Institute’s Center for Children and Families shows that health reform has already helped expand health insurance coverage to one million more children -- even in our suffering economy when the number of uninsured kids typically grows.
New data from the Medicare agency also shows that more than 2.6 million seniors are saving money when they fall into the Medicare prescription drug coverage gap. Due to health reform, seniors with high drug costs have saved an average of $569.
The Centers for Disease Control has also quantified that 2.5 million young adults under age 26 are getting health coverage on their parents’ insurance thanks to health reform.
Our country faces serious challenges in 2012, but there are also many opportunities for progress. To move our country forward, the Congressional Majority must be willing to reach across party lines and pursue balanced legislation.

Pete "Fortney" Stark represents his liberal constituency with vigor & tenacity. Never one to mince words or filter his thoughts he certainly has a way of iritating his detractors. And why shouldn't he after all no Republican challenger has received more than 35% of the vote when running against him in thirty years. Contrary to what a few conservative idiots (and you know who you are) would have you believe this is an overwhelmingly progressive district & Pete represents it extremely well. Pete along with Barbara Lee & Ron Paul are in the forefront of the battle for medicinal marijuana through both legislation & litigation. He has co-sponsored legislation to reclassify marijuana under federal law to remove the conflict with state law & to repeal all federal laws pertaining to personal use. He also has pending legislation to reform the banking & tax codes where they refuse to deal with dispensaries like any other legitimate business. He also joined with others in Congress to sue the federal government to block the DEA from threatening & closing dispensaries legal under state law. While local politicians try to impose their own biased views on medicinal marijuana in many cities he represents,Pete is a hero to everyone who believes in "safe & legal access" for everyone. His support is so great that he had the courage to proclaim that he is an atheist,the only Congressman to ever do so. Thank god for Pete Stark the East Bay's "Liberal Lion" !! Keep giving the haters hell Pete !!!!

I'm a Democrat and I can't wait to get rid of Pete Stark, he has become a total liability to the California delegation. At age 81 he is so far past-his-prime it's embarrassing. In DC when he walks the halls of Congress other Democrats turn and run in the other direction when they see him, he no longer makes sense when he talks, nobody listens to him anymore, it's just embarrassing. I mean this guy is O-L-D, he can't work longer than a one hour day anymore, his office is full of pill bottles, he's loud, cantankerous, - when he goes on one of his tirades staffers just run for cover, you never know what's going to happen. Everybody in Washington has tried to get the aging Stark to retire, - he's pretty useless now, but he won't hang up his cleats. A lot of people having been covering up how much he has declined, but I think this will all start coming out in this upcoming election.

Pete Stark is a left-wing hack and was nothing but a rubber stamp for the Pelosi-Reid-Obama agenda. Fortunately, as a minority member of the US House, Mr. Stark is a powerless nobody and has zero influence. The GOP majority control the committees and hence, the power of the chamber. Bottom line, why even waste your time meeting with this dinosaur?

Fortunately, that situation won't last much longer. Tell me,Tim, just what about our GOP-controlled Congress impresses you the most? Is it that they work for the banks and other large corporations and NOT the people that voted them into office, or is it that they have blocked virtually all of the legislation that has been brought to the floor that would have benefitted the average American, and not just the uber-wealthy?
There are plenty more examples of GOP obstruction in a time when well-considered decisions and action are needed. If the choices I gave you aren't on your top ten list, just let us know which ones you're most happy with.

Pete Stark,Pelosi,Reid & Obama are all admired & respected by the majority of the voters who put them in office. While the mention of their names may infuriate the backward,inbred,mouth breathing,tea party enthusiasts in the heartland of America we just keep sending them back year after year because they represent the predominately Democratic electorate that continues to elect them. You can malign them to your hearts content,but they still represent you & the handful of right-wing kooks whose only recourse is to disbarage them. This is and always will be a Democratic Party stronghold,get used to it or get lost haters.
